What is it like to live in Elgin, Oklahoma? Be prepared to take a step back in time, when kids play outside until the street lights come on and everyone knows their neighbor. People still wave as they drive down the road. This isn’t just a town, it is a community. Elgin community still holds Home Coming Parades on Main Street and attends Friday night football games. You will find that Elgin parents are very involved in their children’s school activities, sports, churches, and many civic organizations. Lake Lawtonka and Lake Ellsworth are terrific for fishing, boating, swimming and recreation. Elgin, OK has easy access to I-44 and only a short 15 minute drive to Lawton-Ft. Sill, which offers a larger assortment of restaurants, bowling alleys, shopping centers, a water park, roller skating, and 4 movie theaters.

Elgin Schools are in high demand among parents driving the population to an all time high in the Elgin and surrounding area. With such a population growth in the last few years, the Elgin School District has expanded and added new school buildings to accommodate the increased number of students. Although the Elgin School Campus is considered relatively small and located in close proximity to each other, each school has its own gymnasium and cafeteria. Currently a new school aquatic center is being considered. Building an aquatic center would allow the availability of swim lessons, rehab benefits, and a swim team for Elgin residents.
Elgin ranked 2nd safest city in Oklahoma in 2015 by Safewise due to having such a low crime rate. You will be hard pressed to find many problems associated with “big city” living in this little town. Many children still walk to school and ride their bicycles around town. A Dare officer is onsite on the Elgin School Campus offering classes and teaching children from a very young age to “just say no to drugs”.
